If one is aware of Madam Coco Chanel’s passion for Fine Art and fashion, this exhibition would not come as a surprise at all. For most, clothes are for indifferent window displays; while for her, they are rare collectibles that deserve the fine care and attention of a museum. By injecting the mere physicality of fashion with a quintessential concept, a fashion shop is no longer just money making machine operates by the market’s demand and supply, instead a desirable installation that lifts one’s soul. And with a little help from Salvador Dali, dreams and fashion interweave into a new life. The vision of Madam Coco Chanel reincarnates in the shape of ‘Chanel Mobile Art’ through the interpretation of Karl Lagerfeld, its current designer.
The brainchild of Karl Lagerfeld and curator Fabrice Bousteau, the Chanel-2.55-inspired Mobile Art exhibition will stretch its wings for one full year, with creative input from renowned international artists such as Sophie Calle, Yoko Ono, Chinese artist Yang Fu Dong and Korean artist Lee Bul, as well as installation artists Leandro Erlich and Daniel Buren. Debuting in Hong Kong, Mobile Art will be making appearances in Tokyo, New York, London, Moscow and Paris. Hong Kong dates are between 27 Feb 2008 and 5 Apr 2008. Free entry.
