UNDER COVER x SILLY THING “THE NEW MUTATION”
The impactful red and gold reinforce the shocking effect
After the overwhelming reception on the black and purple SILLY THING × UNDER COVER SNEAKERS on 1st Oct 2008, red and gold are the latest edition.
Under Cover designer Jun Takahashi and TK from SILLY THING are placing the fake Mickey Mouse character as seen in Seditionaries (former Vivienne Westwood) in the 1970S Punk era into the new edition. This new model embodies punk spirit and the ‘big foot’ proportion, the shoe front is as wide as 13cm (a good 3cm wider than the original). Printed with the sentence ‘Under Cover Jun Takahashi’, the new model channels the Under Cover classic aesthetic.
The second generation of SILLY THING × UNDER COVER Jack Purcell has become an independent item on its own, an original item co-created by SILLY THING and UNDER COVER. For its new look, much time was consumed for the product development and design. Due to the unusual proportion of the shoe, there were many technical issues throughout the process concerning the material, cost and shoe structure. At times the collaboration was nearly terminated because of these issues, but after 18 months of non-stop development and test, the 2008 version of UNDER COVER × SILLY THING Jack Purcell was finally materialised.
