Newgate is the name of a street in old London town, as well as an acclaimed clock maker. Their design covers a wide spectrum, from contemporary to classic. A glimpse at the retro style wall clock may magically takes one back to the good old times. The unique craftsmanship of Newgate is well recognized, and they are one of the best sellers at Journal Standard (Japanese department store) furniture department. One is also elegantly decorating the wall at the N.Hoolywood store in Hong Kong. Over the years, Newsgate has travelled from Europe to Asia.
Despite of its look, Newsgate is not a vintage label. Only founded in 1991 by Jim Read and Chloe MacDonald (at tender ages of 21 and 18), it all started in a tiny space. It was, only until Harrods was knocking on the door. Newsgate then took off from there. The company was established as acclaimed clock maker by 1994 and their products reached America and Asia a year later. Newsgate is now one of the most recognized clock makers.
Among the many, Retro Clocks collection is the most popular. Its ‘50’s Clock’ model is made with metal case, metal hands, aged paper dial and glass lens with a size 29cm × 7.5cm. Does it remind you of one of the clocks spotted in a park or underground platform in London?
