SIWA
FULLY UTILIZE THE POSSIBILITIES OF PAPER
SIWA is the complete opposite version of WASHI (Japanese Paper). Non-existent until end of 2008, SIWA brings a sense of avant-garde into paper-making. An edgy concept, it quickly attracts attention among the industry embodying a whole new set of paper-making techniques as well as massive product concept. Revolutionary material ‘Naron’ has gone from strength to strength, starting from being the material of a small handbag to lighting appliances. The possibilities go on.
SIWA origins from Yamanashi (Japan), where paper-making has been evolving for over a thousand year. It is proposed by paper manufacturer Onao Co., Ltd. and led by iconic Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. The debut SIWA series by Fukasawa sees five-layers-in-one material made into tote bag, liter bin, glasses bag, book cover and other daily items. Apart from keeping the Japanese traditional flavour, the new material is durable and water-proof. It is no wonder that the series is already widely celebrated.
Each SIWA item is handcrafted and handmade individually. The appearance is as important as its function. This simplicity is achieved with fine craftsmanship and therefore limited to a small quantity. Many items have already sold out in Japan.
