‘Paris, LA’ is a magazine on the two cities. “Paris, LA’ is born of shared perspectives. It’s a project, like a love story, that comes from the feeling of being in one place, thinking about another.’ its Editor-in-Chief Dorothée Perret explains. This statement seems to share a similar spirit to ‘true life is elsewhere’ as written by famous poet Rimbaud, also ‘Life is Elsewhere’ (the title of a book) by Milan Kundera. It is evidential that foreign ground is what dreams are made of.

Dorothée is French and based in Paris; her husband an American based in LA. ‘Paris, LA’ directly points to the two locations as their connection. Freedom is shown on different level in these two places. In LA it is more of a style statement and attitude, whereas in Paris it is about the mind. The context of ‘Paris, LA’ is highly personal, split into sections namely ‘Essays’, ‘Fashion’, ‘Writing’, ‘Art’, ‘Photo’, and ‘Music’. The magazine is not about promoting the new, but seen through the eyes of Dorothée and how she relates to various subject matters. This sense of curiosity spring from her previous position as the editor of ‘Purple’, but is taken further in the shape of ‘Paris, LA’. Genuine in its subject, Dorothée admits there is no movie section as yet simply because it was not she got to participate during the production.
