A picturesque hotel next to the pond as if a scene taken from a 19th century oil painting; sunset rays penetrate through the lace curtain and recline on the wooden floor near a bed; open the bed stand drawer, a butterfly, once resting inside begins to take a flight. ‘Draft’, a Japanese design agency, could have had a similar dream. Their ‘Hotel Butterfly’ note tag is in the shape of a flying butterfly, with its wings stretch between pages as if it is flying between scenes of literature and poetry. The name Hotel Butterfly is based on a fictitious hotel. Others, such as the hotel amenity series include cutlery design.
Daft has been producing designs in advertising and printing. ‘D-BROS’, established by Yoshie Watanabe, Ryosuke Uehara in Tokyo in 1995, are signified by their graphic-focused style. From diamonds in paper, Nordic forest paper cut-out decoration, to glasses illustrating a fairy tale about a little girl and a wild fox. Their work is memorized by many and bags them numerous awards worldwide.
