STARBUCKS ‘BINGSUTT’
COFFEEHOUSE OF THE OLD DAYS
At the end of Duddell Street (Central) lies the ‘gas lamp street’, where granite staircases and authentic Suggs & Co. gas lamps outline an area of historic tranquility.
It is only fitting that Starbucks is making its worldwide concept café debut, ‘Bingsutt’, in the area. With its interior customised by the local furniture label G.O.D. (Goods of Desire), the café is nostalgic with its pendant lamp, ceiling fan, mosaic flooring, bird cages, and vintage television alike. Bingsutt, traditionally a place where the locals chat and exchange news, is resurrected in this postmodern form.
The menu is equally postmodern and is served in the concept café only — brown sugar pineapple bun with thick-cut butter; cocktail bun with coffee flavour. Others such as sliced beef filone, coffee egg tart and coffee jelly frappuccino blended coffee are served across all Starbucks in Hong Kong. The menu is a reminder of the authentic, east-meet-west Hong Kong flavour.
