WASARA
PAPER TABLEWARE FOR SPIRITUAL ENRICHMENT
A simple action of picking up a mug or gazing at a full dish could be a soul-purifying, an experience that synchronises with the harmony within. The concept of Wasara paper tableware is to inherit the Japanese Zen philosophy. The founders Shinichiro Ogata and Michiyo Tanabe join forces, combining their experience in interior consultancy, fashion design and public relations. A fine balance of art and commerce, the designer’s creations gained them numerous awards.
Wasara is a take on ‘shakkei’, a Japanese aesthetic concept that means ‘the integration of the outdoor and the indoor’ and encourages integration of human beings and the nature. With the minimal silhouette and substantial texture, Wasara gives a certain familiar feeling that resembles a beloved one. Even though paper tableware is not made to last for permanent use, Wasara is made in bio-degradable material such as reeds, bagasse (sugar cane residue) and bamboo. Short but sweet, the Wasara experience is quite exceptional.
