Nancy G. Komen had first hand experience of witnessing her own sister (Susan G. Komen) goes through breast cancer. Materialising her promise, she launched ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure®’ in 1982. Currently the biggest organisation to support breast cancer sufferers and their family members, ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure®’ is already in its twenty-seventh years running.
Apart from accepting donations and sponsorships, ‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure®’ also initiates alternative schemes for raising the much-needed funds. It has collaborated with toy label Gentle Giant to launch ‘Darth Vader Helmet Pink Edition’ this summer. For the sale of each unit, Gentle Giant is contributing 10% of retail price to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
