Sheffield (UK) independent band In the Nursery (ITN) is making its debut in Asia, performing original score live for the films ‘The Passion of Joan of Arc’ and‘Man with A Movie Camera’. In the genre of Neo Classical and Martial Electronica, the band blends military drums and electronic music to upbeat and atmospheric effect, crossing the boundary of music and film.
The ITN twins Klive Humberstone and Nigel Humberstone started working on their ‘Optical Music Series’ since 1996. The series include ‘The Cabinet of Dr Caligari’, ‘A Page of Madness’ and other classic silent movie. The band has already performed live for over hundred shows in ICA (London, UK), Freiburg Film Festival (Germany) and Melbourne International Film Festival, exploring possibilities in cinematic space and emotions. ITN expands music to other platforms, such as creating music scores for Hollywood films and trailers such as ‘Interview with the Vampire’, ‘Rainmaker’, as well as German computer game / novel project ‘Engel’. The band has worked on over four hundred titles over the years.
The programmme also includes a ‘Masterclass’session, with ITN sharing the art on creating original music score for silent films, its history, ‘spotting’, sound design and preparation for live performance. They will also demonstrate how to synchronise sound with visuals and how to utilise the two to convey emotions.
