PERSONAL EFFECTS
100 PERSONAL SELECTIONS BY HIROSHI FUJIWARA
The ‘Ura-harajuku Movement’ in the 1990s made its affects on worldwide contemporary culture, setting a new standard for fashion, music, the status of designers and even branding. Within this subject, Hiroshi Fujiwara is undeniably the key figure. Working as a music producer at the time, he actively introduced various sub-cultures to the Japanese youth, bringing these otherwise deserted cultures from the west to Tokyo through his column in magazine. From then on, Hiroshi’s recommendations became a recognized merit. Although known as a ‘collector’ by many, Hiroshi thinks otherwise — because he always uses the objects and not left them in perfect condition.
Recently published, ‘Personal Effects’ is a complete guide of Hiroshi’s purchases. From fashion, electronics, stationery, watches, guitar to many more, it dutifully lists out Hiroshi’s top 100 processions. Complete with his very own comments in English and Japanese, the book is an intimate record of one’s taste and state of mind.
