SHOWstudio SHOP
BITS AND PIECES OF CONTEMPORARY FASHION HISTORY
SHOWstudio.com, founded by star photographer Nick Knight, needs no introduction. Launched in 2000, the glorious website has established itself firmly as an authority in fashion and design. ‘I would like to communicate my point of view in different ways, because it could get lonely sometimes. As a photographer I found myself in a position where the only feedback I got was if I get re-booked for a job from the same client. I find this position very passive and I prefer other forms of feedback. I decided to launch an alternative platform for me and other creative practitioners.’ Knight said. Since its launch, SHOWstudio counts John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Peter Saville, Kate Moss, Björk and Julie Verhoeven as some of their high profile contributors.
One of the themes of SHOWstudio.com is ‘show the studio’. Throughout the years, the online audience has witnessed process of various fashion shoots, SHOWstudio team working away, super model ‘phone-ins’ during fashion weeks, live interviews and many more. Having been showing the ‘present tense’ for so long, now is the time for some ‘past tense’ in the shape of SHOWstudio Shop. ‘Most set designs are thrown away to the skip once the shoot is done, but I really believe that they are part of fashion history and it is a pity.’ Knight explains.
Hence we now see the stuffed tiger from Alexander McQueen Puma campaign, oversized cherries Simon Costin tailor-made for Tim Walker shoot, parasol as appeared in Christian Dior A/W 1997 campaign and bunny ears by Shona Heath displayed in SHOWstudio Shop. Each item marked at a fraction of a price compare to an art piece, these objects inspire revelations far beyond the fashion border.
