After SILLY THING × The Beatles 1000% Kubrick Set kicked started its own momentum, SILLY THING is gathering force again this autumn to launch SILLY THING × Daft Punk Kubrick 1000%. Created with TK’s unique vision, this project embodies the diverse territories of fashion, music and toy. We are speaking with TK on this project.

Q: When did you start taking an interest in Daft Punk? Which are your favourite Daft Punk tracks?
TK: Right from the start when they released their debut album ‘Homework’ — the name Daft Punk and their logo caught my eyes. ‘Something About Us’ is one of my all-time-favourite tracks.

Q: From planning to finishing, how long is the production for this 1000% Kubrick collaboration with Medicom Toy and Daft Punk?
TK: This collaboration between Daft Punk and SILLY THING took nearly two years. As you know Daft Punk is extremely selective when it comes to collaboration, so this is ground-breaking news for us. I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude towards Pedro ‘Busy P’ Winter at Ed Banger and Michael at LaMJC, for this project would not be possible without their wonderful help and trust on us.

This time our main challenge is to portray the texture of the Daft Punk helmets, as this is symbolic to their image. All parties (SILLY THING, Daft Punk and Medicom) agreed on going the extra mile to perfect the luminosity, curves and such details, therefore this part took the longest.

Q: How involved are SILLY THING, Medicom Toy and Daft Punk in this project?
TK: We are confident on collaborating with Medicom Toy, as they had previous experience on producing 100% Daft Punk Kubrick already. Of course the greatest care went into perfecting the helmet, and we made sure Medicom had plenty of time for the execution. As for myself, I am involved in this project as the curator. I am also in charge of the design of the packaging.

Q: Daft Punk is gathering much hype for its soundtrack for the film ‘Tron 2.0’ recently. What is your opinion on this collaboration?
TK: I was quite young when ‘Tron’ was released. However, the virtual world in the film captured my imagination and ‘Tron’ is definitely a sci-fi cult classic. It was a lovely surprise that Daft Punk created the soundtrack for its sequel ‘Tron 2.0’. In my opinion, they are the best candidate for it.

Q: After Daft Punk, what other characters would you like to work on for the 1000% Kubrick series?
TK: I like Alien Kubrick a lot, so I guess that would be my answer.

Q: Please could you tell us where and when we could find SILLY THING × Daft Punk 1000% Kubrick?
TK: The Daft Punk 1000% Kubrick will be first made available on 1st October at THINK SILLY Store (Hong Kong) and Cool Cats web store (Paris). Other stockists include Joyce (Hong Kong), Dover Street Market (London), Colette (Paris), Surrender (Singapore) and Contemporary Fix (Tokyo), available from 5th October.
