MADE IN CHINA
CONTEMPORARY CHINESE INDUSTRIAL DIRECTORY
After American vintage clothing and Japanese pop culture, Tom Hung is tapping into the ‘Made in China’ territory. The spark ignited from a Yu Hua novel and Chinese-made alarm clock, and grew from there.
Getting his hands into old Chinese products, Tom’s latest interest turned into a new venture. ‘Made in China’ took two years worth of production, and serves as a director of Chinese contemporary industrial design. With a forward-thinking vision, this book speaks volume both in quantity and quality. 250 pages filled with detailed information, on Chinese contemporary design classic such as Hero (Ying Xiong) pen, ‘Shanghai’ Watch, the Diamond alarm clocks, Great Wall camera, as well as rare items such as Kitten Teapot, Panda Pen (Beijing Er Tong Bi), and ‘Sunflower’ cigarette case from Shanghai. Inspired by authentic 1960s notebook, the red velvet with gold gilding cover makes an eye catching design in its own right. Demonstrating the evolution of Chinese contemporary industrial design over the past decades, ‘Made in China’ makes a detailed and valid record.
