NOMIYA AT PALAIS DE TOKYO
AN ARTISTIC JOURNEY IN THE WORLD OF CULINARY ART
Culinary is an art and a product of human civilization. We study our grandmother’s recipes, experiment with ways of cooking habits. It is the most straight-forward way to expressing our creativity and desire for a better life. Sharing meals certainly holds its own meaning, creating memories for family and friends.
‘Art Home’ (arôme), launched 1st July 2009 in Paris, is a lifestyle and culinary art project. A collaboration between Swedish household appliances brand Electrolux and gallery Palais de Tokyo, the aim is to re-emphasize on ‘the moment of the meal’. The Art Home tour will see vegetable gardens, as well as a culinary workshop set up in the gallery. The new recipes are to be ‘launched’ in the fine dining house Nomiya situated amongst the exquisite view of Paris.
As the ‘living area’ of this Art Home project, Nomiya is created by French artist Laurent Grasso (whose work was shown at ‘Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation’ in Hong Kong) and his architect brother Pascal Grasso. Set on the rooftop of Palais de Tokyo, the 18-meter-long transparent space includes only a table d’hôte for 12 guests, a lounge to enjoy aperitif and a kitchen where the chef will be seen working his magic. The Culinary Director Gilles Stassart decides that no menu will be announced beforehand, so many gastronomic surprises are to be expected – with lobster Lollipop or foie gras marshmallow serve as some of the experimental examples. However, I personally consider soaking in the view of Eiffel Tower and Seine River to be the best main dish. Lunch and dinner are priced at 60 and 80 Euros respectively, with reservations to be made via their website only. This special project is set to last until 1st July 2010.
