ITALIAN NOVELIST & SCHOLAR UMBERTO ECO
《THE INFINITY OF LISTS》
2009 is quite a year for book readers worldwide. There are new book releases from Milan Kundera, Haruki Murakami and even Eileen Zhang Ai Ling. Stepping into December, the Italian semiotics professor and heavy weight novelist Umberto Eco is releasing ‘The Infinity of Lists’. The title is definitely making its way to the 2009 booklist!
The seventy-seven-year-old Umberto Eco is an internationally acclaimed writer, semiotics professor, historian, philosopher and critic. Teaching at University of Bologna in Milan, Eco released his spectacular debut ‘The Name of The Rose’ at the age of forty-eight. ‘Foucault’s Pendulum’, now a contemporary classic, inspires writers such as Dan Brown and many more. Taking his focus away from fiction in recent years, Eco marches into territories such as religion, culture, current affairs and academic. ‘History of Beauty’, a labor of love written in 2006, caught the interest of the public; its sequel ‘History of Ugliness’ was published in 2008. ‘The Infinity of Lists’, is materialized in 2009.
Alongside the book release, Eco is also organizing a ‘Mille e Tre’ event with the Louvre in Paris. The event makes an introduction of ancient and contemporary graphic works, as well as over twenty academic topics. Back to this title, ‘The Infinity of Lists’ is composed of 408 pages. As stated in its title, it is an infinite and dazzling list. Based on observing art, literary and music, objects from the ancient time to Andy Warhol collection make their appearance here. ‘The Infinity of Lists’ is a curation theory with a fascinating spin.
