ABOUT WACKO MARIA
Co-founded by former Japan football team goalkeeper Atsuhiko Mori and ex-J-League team Tokyo Verdy (now Verdy 1969) member Keiji Ishizuka, they set up the ‘Rock Steady’ bar prior Wacko Maria. After Atsuhiko Mori’s departure from football team, the bar was opened in Meguro Aobadai. Popular amongst their friends, the bar soon became one of the hot spots in Tokyo. The two started to produce t-shirt and homeware under Rock Steady and collaborated with labels such as Yoshida & Co. and WTAPS. These collaborations were so well-received at B Jirushi Yoshida and Black Flag (Minami Aoyama) that the two decided to develop the line into a full fashion collection.
Wacko Maria emphasizes on the ‘gentleman look’, with ‘woman, beer, music, top hat’ as their main inspirations. Top hat is a recurring item in the Wacko Maria collections — with five shapes and three materials as the blue print, each season inspires new designs. Sourcing materials from Czech Republic and manufacturing in Japan, pursuing the finest quality is vital to the Wacko Maria gentleman look.
Recommended by none other than Takuya Kimura, Japanese musician Kenji Furuya and fashion stylist Tsuyoshi Noguchi, Wacko Maria is now stocked at B Jirushi Yoshida, Black Flag, Elt and honeyee.com. The label is earning its status in Japan and fashion circles worldwide.
