Since COMME des GARCONS Hong Kong moved from On Lan Street to Ice House Street, its name has evolved from Work Box to Under the Ground. Literally, the store is now in the basement level and in true CdG spirit, including its exhibition space.
After showing renowned Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei, CdG has invited French artist and designer Christian Astuguevieille to exhibit ‘Useful or Useless’ installation. The artist collects vintage cooking utensils, cutlery and table decoration from various eras, then transforms them into art pieces.
Accessories designer Astuguevieille is also collaborating with CdG on a collection, to much anticipation. Unconventional material such as rope, paper, leather and metal are applied with surprising technique. Each item comes with a unique story of its own, to be discovered by the future owner.
ABOUT CHRISTIAN ASTUGUEVIEILLE
Artist, born and living in Paris, whose work is inspired by the Arte Povera Movement. Christian Astuguevieille uses very common materials in order to transform them into, as the artist says, ‘dream detonators’. The work can be either in the form of jewellery, or sculpture or as an installation. He is interested to excite all five senses, like with his permanent and evolutive installation at the MAIR Museum, Roubaix, France, where the sense of touch and the sense of smell are especially important to him.
