UNDER COVER LESS BUT BETTER
WHEN JUN TAKAHASHI MEETS DIETER RAMS
Design Museum (London) exhibited a retrospective for Dieter Rams in November 2009 — titled ‘Less is More’. As the core figure of Braun, Dieter Rams’s minimalist design philosophy is hugely influential. His electronic objects are regarded as everyday-art-objects, iconic symbols of a modern lifestyle.
Jun Takahashi, designer of Under Cover, pays tribute to Rams in his S/S2010 collection. Reinterpreting Ram’s design philosophy as ‘Simple but Beautiful’, Takahashi observes the essence of Braun objects and puts a spin into his clothing design.
The ‘Less but Better’ collection is now available in Under Cover Hong Kong. Key items include hoodie jacket, jumper, net vest, boxer, backpack and tote bag, all with black polka dots pattern made to mimic air holes in Braun design. Combining core Under Cover aesthetic with graphic minimalist touch, the industrial yet luxurious looking orange deerskin belt is a highlight.
