MASERATI GRANCABRIO
MASERATI’S FIRST FOUR-SEATER CABRIO
The Maserati GranCabrio launch was held at Hong Kong IFC Isola. GranCabrio is the first four-seater open-top car in its category, with the GranTurismo version being a physical proof of considerable investment into its development.
The cloth roof is the result of the ‘centre of gravity’ design concept. Hi-tech lightweight fiber canvas is supported by the main structure made in steel and aluminum alloy. Weighing 65kg only, it is tested in severe condition of minus 30 to 40 degrees. It can also function at the high speed of 30 miles per hour, durable in extreme environment and conditions. The core structure of GranCabrio is re-designed with the most advance virtual technology, aiming to create a lightweight structure. The overall weight is only 100kg more than the coupé version. To maintain the structural strength without a solid car roof, Maserati invested over thousand hours of calculation to develop the chasis.
The disrupting sound of wind is another issue to be overcome. Through the mini-microphone on the dashboard, the AudioPilot® sensor would automatically adjust the noise level inside the car, ensuring the best audio quality when driving. Safety is massively vital for open-top cars — the extendable roll bars set behind the rear seats are hidden by the hood cover and can be activated in just 0.19 seconds. This specific function is equally vital for adults and children on board. The new generation airbags are created with intelligent technology and adapt the inflation according to the size of the occupants.
GranCabrio continues the elegance of Pininfarina, setting a high benchmark as the first four-seater open-top Maserati car.
