GREEN ZONE
WAR BETWEEN U.S. AND IRAQ LEADS TO CONTEMPLATION ON HUMANITY VALUES
Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon have been collaborating on various projects that capture action film audience worldwide, since ‘The Bourne Supremacy’. Their latest offering, ‘Green Zone’, promises new sparks.
The film is based on ‘Imperial Life in The Emerald City’, written by ‘Washing Post’ Baghdād correspondent Rajiv Chandrasekaran. Set in 2003, ‘Green Zone’ tells the story of U.S. soldier (played by Matt Damon) who is appointed to locate mass destruction weapons inside Iraq. After many unfruitful investigations, his doubt finally leads to a search for the truth. The aim is to reveal the secret plan of U.S. government, in order to prevent a full-blown war.
Green zone is an existing non-military area in Iraq, cautiously guarded by the U.S. army. The condition within the green zone makes an ironic contrast with the war zone. This film is an obvious anti-war statement, describing the contradiction within U.S. and Iraq government. The cinematography and editing compliment the pace of the story, enhancing Paul Greengrass’s story telling. Apart from the visual stimulation of high speed action, the story (related to current affairs) encourages the audience to contemplate on war and its profound effects on the world.
