LOFTY INTEGRITY
WU GUANZHONG’S LATEST DONATION

‘The development of China has to build upon a foundation of its own culture, with cultural icons and art pieces of worldwide recognition.’ Wu Guanzhong (1919 –2010 ) is one of the most significant Chinese artists in 20th century. Born in Yixing Jiangsu, he studied at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts (Paris) in 1950s and later returned to China to teach at China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. He also taught at Tsinghua University (Architecture). British Museum held an exhibition of Wu’s work in 1992, a first for the museum to show work by Chinese artist alive — a seal of Wu’s status on the international platform. Wu’s creative endeavor sways between oil and ink painting, channeling Asian and Western art territories. His contribution to art is hugely influential. This is his third donation to Hong Kong Museum of Art, including 12 oil paintings and 21 ink paintings dated between 2008 and 2009. The exhibition is showing the collection alongside other 51 paintings previously donated. Loft Integrity is showing until 29th August 2010.
