WINNING ELEVEN 2011
REINVIGORATING THE SERIES
Developed by Japanese video game manufacturer Konami, ten versions of ‘Winning Eleven’ had been released since 1995. By now, the title itself is almost equivalent to football video game. The latest addition ‘Winning Eleven 2011’ completely revolutionises the game, not only visual-wise. With over a thousand new movements, each player’s action is smoother than before. The focus is on technique this time, the difference of speed between players are adjusted to create more tension; defense ability of A.I. players are hugely increased, therefore more demanding of its player’s technique. At the same time, players’ dribbling ability is also upped a notch. Encouraged to utilise new techniques, they now have to adjust their direction and kick with increased precision. On the first look it seems to make the game harder, but all these add to the complexity of gaming.
Copa Libertadores de America is now added to the game, as well as UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League (including FC Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid C.F. and F.C. Internazionale Milano), as they received approvals from most of the football teams involved. The biggest difference is the game plan menu layout, most first-timers will need some time to adjust changing players with cursor.
‘Winning Eleven 2011’ Hong Kong edition is completed with Chinese, although the players’ names remain to be in English; its PS3 version offers English and Japanese commentary, the Japanese version is by renown footballers Hiroshi Nanami and Tsuyoshi Kitazawa.
