Founded in 1850, renowned Hong Kong based fashion and lifestyle boutique Lane Crawford is celebrating its one hundred sixtieth year anniversary. With the contribution from international creative practitioners, ‘Celebrating Modern Traditions’ — combining Hong Kong tradition, art and culture — is now unfolded in Pacific Place Lane Crawford.

As one of the contributors, SILLY THING VISUALS (STV) team has created an oversize installation based on the theme ‘city’. Puzzle Lai from STV filmed the symbolic Victoria Harbour night view and streets in Hong Kong, which was then edited and paired with a soundtrack. The ‘installation sculpture’ represents Obscura’s point of view. From its front, the three-sided glass creates an infinite vision of a city extending endlessly. The futuristic blue lighting symbolises the pioneering image of Hong Kong. 3D glasses are placed at the back of the installation, for visitors to watch video clips produced by STV team.

To enhance the element of interaction, Eric Lim from THINK SILLY interactive team created the ‘Obscura+’ iPhone Apps based on augmented reality — showing ‘visual Christmas messages’ at various locations inside Lane Crawford shop. The most difficult part of materialising ‘Obscura+’ is to create a projection based on first person perspective. The visual sentences also follow the direction of its user’s iPhone, tilting or changing direction accordingly; allowing iPhone to be part of this grand celebration.
