TURNING POINT 1997 – 2008
HAYAO MIYAZAKI’S TWELVE YEARS CONTEMPLATION

Following the release of ‘The Borrower Arrietty’ and retrospective of Studio Ghibli, the attention seems to be on the Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki again. With limitless imagination, his work brings out anti-war and eco messages about man and the mother earth — cherished by the public and international film festivals over the years.

‘Princess Mononoke’, released in 1997, is a milestone for Hayao Miyazaki. Its revenue surpassed ‘Titanic’ that summer, as the most popular film in Japan. ‘Spirited Away’, released in 2001, was awarded with Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards. He was chosen as one of the most influential figures by ‘Time’ magazine in 2005, a proof of his influence worldwide.

Hayao Miyazaki has published ‘Turning Point 1997 – 2008’ , a book filled with insights into his work such as ‘Princess Mononoke’, ‘Spirited Away’, ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ and ‘Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea’. Including proposals, notes, conversation transcripts, the publication is a twelve year contemplation on his vivid career.
