LANE CRAWFORD × OPENING CEREMONY
ONE MONTH POP UP STORE
American Chinese Humberto Leon and American Korean Carol Lim founded Opening Ceremony in New York in 2002. With its first stand alone store set up in Manhattan, it stocks its own label as well as international contemporary designers. Hong Kong is selected as its first highlight region; France, Brazil, Germany, Japan and the U.K. are some of the previous choices. Opening Ceremony is now opened in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. The two founders have recently visited Hong Kong and set up a one-month-only pop up store at Lane Crawford.
Humberto and Carol have turned the third floor of Lane Crawford into three different settings — womenswear department as New York street, with a French flea market window display; shoe department is Broadway themed; menswear department is based on Hollywood. Taking French Riviera as inspiration, the designers have re-defined Opening Ceremony key items in new colourways and material. The ‘three-way collaborations’ feature designers 3.1 Philip Lim, Alexander Wang; artists Andrew Kuo and Aurel Schmidt; as well as previous collaborators Chloë Sevigny and Agnès b.
‘We love collaborating with labels and designers we know well, it’s such a pleasure. Opening Ceremony takes a personal approach and we hope everyone finds something that appeals to their individuality in this collection.’ Humberto said. Their shopping experience gave them confidence in executing this project here. ‘From high-end boutique such as Lane Crawford and Joyce, local hunt for electronic gadget, snack central Mong Kok and Temple Street, shops are almost always open. The consumer power in Hong Kong is just astonishing’.
