Contemporary literature is a major source for feature films. The creative partnership of authors and film directors results in an exchange in different artistic values and approach. Some recent examples are Ang Li’s Lust, Caution as well as Hollywood hit Social Network. The combination of text and visual expands into a brand new, multi-faceted entity. Following the “Novel to Film” programme last year, Hong Kong Film Critics Society invited six experienced film critics to select six adaptation feature films, to continue the discussion and showing of classic films in cinema.
The films origin from Italy, France, India, U.S. and Japan, including The Conformist (by Bernardo Bertolucci, 1970), Kwaidan (by Kobayashi Masaki, 1964), Hiroshima mon amour (by Alain Resnais, 1959), Letter from An Unknown Woman (by Max Ophüls, 1948), Tess (by Roman Polanski, 1979) and The Lonely Wife (by Satyajit Ray, 1964). The films will be shown in full length, with workshop alongside selected screenings. More detail is available on the official website.
