GOOGLE I/O 2011
CHROME OS AND CHROMEBOOK LAUNCH
Google’s annual event I/O 2011 took place in San Francisco last week. Themed “Momentum, Mobile & More”, the event covers the brand’s new products and development — including the highly anticipated Android 3.1 Honeycomb, latest Ice Cream Sandwich(ICS), Google TV, Android@Home system and Cloud Music Player. Last but not least, Chrome OS was the focus on the second day.
Chrome OS is an operating system based on the Google Chrome web browser. Each user’s applications, media files, game and text files would be saved on the Google server, promptly updated with cloud computing pathway. Easily navigated on any computer, one could easily access the above when logged in — a relief for those in constant fear of losing laptop or forgetting to back up. More software is also available on Chrome Web Store.
Two Chromebooks, manufactured by Samsung and Acer (12.1″ and 11.6″ respectively), were also launched at the event. Paired with Intel Atom processor, it takes only 10 seconds for the laptop to be up and running. Advance order will be taken as of 15th June, more details are available on Google official website.
