PETIT BAZAAR
A FRENCH CONCEPT STORE FOR KIDS
“I prefer neutral palette, I am not limited by colours. I notice that many people distinguish colour by gender in Hong Kong; many children products are covered with cartoon.” Narguess Sousi, manager at Petit Bazaar, comments on the current situation of local children’s market.
The French decorates a room in a way that reflects their personality, and prefers unique objects which are not necessarily expensive. These are also Narguess Sousi’s buying criteria – as a result, the product range consists of over eighty labels; over thousand items mostly sourced from France, ranging from clothing, toy, furniture to kitchen appliances. Set up in Wan Chai back in March this year, the category started from children’s items and homeware, then furniture; it later expanded to skincare and jewellery. The tree house sitting right in the middle of the store has also become a feature. All the products are handpicked by Sousi personally. First and foremost, the product needs to be made in a material that is harmless to children; its production needs to fulfill fair-trade and eco standard. Influenced by her studies in psychology and language therapy, Sousi also focuses on the educational aspect of each toy, serving as learning tool to inspire curiosity and imagination. The accessible price point holds mainstream appeal. Founded (founded and managed?) by native French Narguess Sousi in May (March?), its poetic charm is rare amongst local children’s stores.
