If you’re looking for shopping gems in south of Hong Kong, the best spots can be found in the industrial buildings in Ap Lei Chau. The neighbouring factory area of Wong Chuk Hang is slowly developing into a business/leisure region with a character of its own. Here you’ll find fashion headquarters, modern hotels, private art galleries, furniture warehouses, and of course, the very well-hidden Zakka store — MIRTH.

MIRTH is located in quite a unique location, with the rear facing the main road and a non-related bold sign hanging on top of the building; the shop is pretty much hidden from the numerous bus journeys that go past. On close inspection, MIRTH is actually a furniture-orientated store. The main entrance is at the rear of the building, and through the doorway, it would take you to a totally different world. The store features a 5000ft open space, and the natural sunlight lights up the space to provide a modern appeal. The owners of this amazing paradise are Kylie and Alex who originated from Australia and New Zealand respectively. Both of them have previously worked for Children’s fashion and traces of their background are evident throughout the design of the store.

MIRTH is divided into four departments: home, children’s, stationery and books, and fashion accessories where all the items are imported from different corners of the world. Customers’ favourites include the 100% naturally made large wooden furniture, while the Bensimon pumps from France and Lisa Stickley’s handbag collection from United Kingdom are highly recommended by the owners.

The duo mentioned the purpose of the store was to create a spacious environment, and through this, they are hoping to help the locals to free their minds and relax, while enjoying their visit with a cup of freshly grounded coffee.
